It’s a constant battle between pro-life and pro-choice supporters nationwide. Abortions will take place whether there are restrictions or not, which is why it’s important to provide this procedure as an option to women. Roe Vs. Wade should not be overturned, because it continues with the protection of women’s rights, it reduces maternity deaths due to self-induced abortions, and it ensures that women remain in control of their body.

Throughout the years, abortion has become one out of many controversial topics talked about in the U.S. Abortion goes way back when the U.S Supreme Court of Roe V. Wade declared the legal and safe abortion constitutional right. Studies have shown that “Today, 73 percent of Americans — including a majority of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans — don’t want to see Roe v. Wade Overturned,” (“Roe v. Wade: The Constitutional Right to Access Safe, Legal Abortion”). This shows, that though the legalization of Abortion passed, many people are frightened that they will withdraw the right to having an abortion. Throughout the years, abortion has become one out of many controversial topics talked about in the U.S. Abortion goes way back when the U.S Supreme Court of Roe V. Studies have shown that “Today, 73 percent of Americans — including a majority of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans — don’t want to see Roe v. Wade Overturned,” (“Roe v. This shows, that though the legalization of Abortion passed, many people are frightened that they will withdraw the right to having an abortion. As well as, some places around the world are basically jeopardizing a citizen’s right, “Since 2011, politicians have passed more than 400 new state abortion restrictions that shame, pressure, and punish people who have decided to have an abortion,” (“Roe v. Though many assumptions are made on if whether Abortion is secure, they’re many options for the ones who are indecisive of this procedure. Many women have experienced a horrible visit to the clinic, but ever since the Roe vs. Wade U.S Supreme court case abortion producers are known to be safe, “Abortion is a legal right thanks to Roe, it’s become one of the safest medical procedures in the United States,” (“Abortion Services and Information Procedures & Options”). Specially, since some women doubt their choice it is okay to feel safe and secure about the decision that they make. Knowing that the procedure is legalized. There are two types of abortion options that are legal in the U.S, “There are different abortion options available depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy. These options include both medical and surgical abortion methods,” (“Abortion Services and Information Procedures & Options”). Because there are options open to the public there is no need of any illegal procedures that can be harmful. To summarize, Abortion options are opened to a person who decides to get one in a safe manners.

Abortion is never an easy topic to touch or talk about, considering the fact that it involves many regulations in some sort of way. It is always divided between pro-life, and pro-choice viewers. Pro-life are supports that do not want the job being performed or allow something to happen, as for Pro-choice they are believers that there should be a choice or whether a choice should be made. For example, “Pro-Life believes that the government has an obligation to preserve all human life, regardless of intent, viability, or quality-of-life concerns,” (“A Look at What Pro-Life and Pro-Choice Supporters Believe”). This, quotation shows that the person is strongly connected with what the government has to say rather than agreeing with a person’s personal decision. As for Pro-Choice they, “Believe that individuals have unlimited autonomy with respect to their own reproductive systems, as long as they don’t breach the autonomy of others,” (“A Look at What Pro-Life and Pro-Choice Supporters Believe”). Because of this, many individuals agree based on what they believe is right. Without having to rely on one another. As a result, Pro-life and Pro-choice have their own strong arguments on why they think they are right.

Abortion happens to be a topic everyone has an opinion about. On average, there are 600,000 abortions per year. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Most abortions in physicians’ offices are usually performed during the early stages of pregnancy,” (“Abortion in the United States: A Statistical Study”). The abortion rates have always remained consistent throughout the years. Unmarried women are accounted for the greatest proportion of those who had an abortion. 83.7% of these women make up a large portion for an average of how many abortions occur throughout the year. An abortion can cost up to as little as $400 to most $2000. Depending on how many weeks pregnant, what equipment used, or type of procedure. According to Sandra M. Alter, a researcher for medical statistics, “Women usually get abortions. In 2009, the mean charge for a surgical abortion performed at 20 weeks of pregnancy in an abortion clinic was $1,555,” (“Abortion in the United States: A Statistical Study”). Women are usually 10 to 20 weeks pregnant when they consider abortion as an option.

Alternatively, those who are against pro-choice supporter, and advocates for abortion restrictions, are pro-lifers. They often use religion and assumptions of the unborn child to support their side. The website states a few concerns that back-up beliefs from both Pro-Choice and Pro-Life supporters. In the website it states a Pro-Life belief, “Abortion is the killing of a human being, which defies the word of God,” (“Should abortion be legal?”). The US is a country with religious freedom, so it would violate the first amendment of the constitution. It would suppress those who are atheist, or those whose religion allows it. In the website it acknowledges a pro-life concern, “Life begins at conception, so unborn babies are human beings with a right to life,” (“Should abortion be legal?”). Scientifically it is unknown when an unborn child is considered a “human-being”. This then would give the mother the right to decisions on her pregnancy. Therefore, abortion should be dependent on the mother herself, and should be an open option for her. As a matter of fact, it all comes down to what is best for a mother and decisions best for suitable for them.

Similarly, restrictions on abortion should not be placed if it is not compatible with science and statistics, as well as with the health and rights of a woman and her decisions. In the documentary “Reversing Roe,” supporters on both sides get the chance to express their reasonings for siding with their belief. In the documentary it states,” You know, you can do whatever you want [about abortion, but] in America, 1 in 4 women will have an abortion in their life”, (“Reversing Roe”). With this many women getting abortions, it seems like providing the choice to abortion is a necessity. This proves how common abortion is, and it is restricting it won’t truly prevent women from this procedure. In the documentary it also states, “Since 2010, 300 abortion restrictions have been passed in this country,” (“Reversing Roe”). This is important since with growing restrictions, abortion is being limited. This could lead to seeking self-induced abortion methods, which would increase maternity deaths in the nation. Without a doubt, women who do seek to get abortions, have barrier to receive an operation that is a right not only through Roe V. Wade, but just through basic human rights.

Abortion is a common procedure and constitutional/human right, yet it is becoming difficult for it to be an option for women. It is a delicate topic that should be decided by women solely. Abolishing abortion would not only oppress women, but it would deny women their right to health care. Educating and protesting limitations on abortion would help the conditions on abortion. Organizations such as NARAL Pro-Choice America and National Abortion Federation, help support those who are pro-choice, and give information on abortion (from what abortion is to laws and policies). Abortion is a difficult choice to make, and it shouldn’t be difficult, as well, to seek one.
