Fifth Graders learn about drugs and violence that they might face in the years to come. Dare symbolizes Drug, Abuse, Resistance, and education. We have dare in our schools to educate the students to say no to drugs and live a drug free life. We also have dare to stay out of gang groups or activities. As students sit in classrooms and listen to police officers talk about D.A.R.E they learn information and expand their minds to the real world.

If people are stuck in a position in which they are not supposed to take drugs like alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, it’s important for you to learn, just one choice can change your life. Did you know that it is illegal to sell marjawan or even have it in some states. Furthermore, marjawan could damage your brain and could lead to cancer. When a person smokes marijuana they will feel the bad uses of it in under 30 minutes to a hour.

Stress means strain, pressure,or excitement felt about a situation or event. sign of stress can be frustration, dizziness, or feeling warm. To get rid of stress, count backwards or breathe deeply. Also to relieve stress do something you like to do. For example, watching TV, singing or dancing, reading, playing sports, or drawing.

Bullying is also another thing we learned. When you see bullying use the five W’s. The five w’s are Who, What, When, Where, and Why. Only tell a adult if you are getting bullied or somebody else is. There are 75,000 alcohol related death each year in the U.S. Mixing alcohol with medicine is dangerous, which could lead to cancer to heart problems and loss of coordination. Drinking Alcohol can have many results in many things. For example alcohol could lose coordination poor judgement, memory loss, loss of self control and could slow down reflexes. Alcohol can also result in a car accident, for a little amount can ruin the judgement and coordination. Also this dangerous drug can increase aggressive acts like domestic violence and child abuse.

Another drug is called Tobacco, which contains nicotine, a powerful addictive substance that causes addiction that could reach your brain in under 10 seconds. It could also cause mouth cancer, tooth loss, and other health problems. Smoking could cause, heart disease, yellows teeth, cause bad breath, drys your skin, and causes wrinkles. 480,00 people die from smoking every year. There are more that 5,000 chemicals in components in cigarette smoke. On average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers. Did you know that there is a type of electronic cigarette called Vaping.Vaping could cause heart attack, raises your blood pressure, and could lead to lung damage. Also, 50,000 deaths per year can be attributed to secondhand smoke. What surprised me was that 70,237 people die each year from drugs such as alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco.

My favorite part of D.A.R.E was:

Do you know the resistance strategies? The resistance strategies are avoiding the situation, strength in numbers, walking away, saying no while giving a reason or excuse, changing the subject, and peer pressure. Avoiding the situation means if there is a gang that is smoking, stay away as possible. An example of strength in numbers is when you are getting bullied and you need help. If you have friends with you then they can stand up for you and help from engaging violence. Walking away symbolizes to abandon someone or something. Changing the subject defines deliberately talking about another topic. For example, if someone starts to talk about a topic that is unsatisfactory then you can start to talk about another subject. Peer Pressure signifies when someone your age forces or influences you do to something.
