“In 2016 alone, 254 Argentine women died from gender-based violence… that amounts to one woman killed every 34 hours” (Henao). What they are doing is femicide, femicide is when you target females specifically and hurt them. People in Argentina do this for there is nothing to stop them; no consequences. Technically it is allowed since the law says they can as long as the women live you will not be punished. We need to solve this problem by enforcing and changing it so it says you cannot injure women at all or else you will be prosecuted have a large possibility of jail time. Although it may not work, doing this would greatly improve the lives of the Argentine people. Firstly, by letting women and children live their lives freely and secondly because women won’t need to feel cautious and watch their backs all the time.

This all started in Argentina, specifically, because the males and people who were in power at the time, treated women as the lesser gender. Therefore, they are still treating women, as useful as they are, as if they are unimportant and bring nothing to society. Which is a violation of the Human Rights they have in their own constitution. In the year 2015, a “reported 235 femicides, but only seven convictions”, were placed in Argentina (Roth). This is saying that in a whole year, 235 different women that were abused, 235 different men abusing them, and only 7 of those men got what they deserved; to go to jail. As of now, in Argentina, women and children are protesting in the street wanting to get the justice that they deserve for themselves and everyone affected by this. What is going on is a major violation of human rights everywhere and it needs to be stopped.

To stop this there has to be a solution to this problem that beats going out in the streets and protesting for rights, for it’s not being very effective. Even though they are asking for their own rights and demanding things like, “a clampdown on…free lawyers for victims of domestic abuse” (Newbery). This is not working and there has been another solution that could work, and that is to change their constitution. As of right now, it states ¨there is a 2009 law setting forth comprehensive measures to prevent and punish violence against women¨ (Roth). This isn’t being as effective as it needs to be, which is why we should change it to something the people of Argentina cannot ignore. An example of this would be something that says, if you are to assault, injure, or take advantage of a female, you will be prosecuted with a possibility of jail time. This would prove to be very effective, for the reason it’s done all the time is because of the low consequences they have. If we were to change that, men would stop gender-based violence, girls would feel safe, and women wouldn’t have to feel like they aren’t worth anything.

The only negative to this idea is that if it did not work then women and girls might feel more targeted. There is always the positive sides also and for this specific idea, the positives outway the negatives. Now, if this were to work, girls will feel safe leaving their homes and going places without needing a man by her side and no one will have to be cautious everywhere they go. As it also says in an article titled ¨Argentine Movement Fight Violence Against Women¨, by Luis Andre, ¨fewer than 40% of those abused sought help of any sort”. Having this new law implemented would make more women feel comfortable enough to speak up about it. It even says that in a survey of 59,000 people ¨79 percent have been abused on public transportation, 20 percent have been raped¨ (Dolven). There is no reason for this to happen and it is hurting the safety in Argentina. If this was an official law it would improve the lives of their citizens. It also agrees with their beliefs, and would only have to be enforced by the officials and the government in Argentina. Putting this law in place has way more positives than it does negatives, and should be done, for the people.

The women of Argentina live in this, unbearable and terrible, environment and there is a way to change that. All we would need to do is enforce a law that already exists to make sure that anyone who is abusing women can have jail time and will have severe consequences. The only downside to this being done is that if it doesn’t work girls could be targeted even more than they were before. Although that is a possibility, It is still the high chance that it will work and then people in Argentina can feel free and have their Human Rights violated every day. If we are to put this law into motion than it would be more livable for the citizens. Once it is implemented the lives of everyone in the country will be greatly increased, for they are finally getting rid of all the gender-biased abuse in Argentina.
