Gilgamesh And Language Development

Throughout Gilgamesh and Enkidu’s voyage both of them prove their courageous behavior many times, but each is a hero in their own way. Gilgamesh is driven by his own individual accretion and self-love, while Enkidu is a true savior. In order to transfer the whole essence of Gilgamesh and his companion Enkidu, author used an irreplaceable part of speech called adjectives. Adjectives implement an integral part in our writing by modifying nouns. Whenever we apply adjectives they make our writing visual and vivid, which gives our objects more description and status. The main aim is to get a desirable idea of what the writer is trying to show us when we read. This helped the author to fully reveal Gilgamesh and Enkidu from different sides so that the reader may feel the whole atmosphere and understand how they behave. Last but not least “The Epic Of Gilgamesh” contains different types of figurative languages such as simile,metaphor and personification to capture the attention of readers and make them think. These features make it easier to specify and gain information from the main characters.

It is very important to choose the right word in describing the characters, as it will be embedded in the reader’s subconscious mind throughout the entire journey. By using adjectives writer achieved a superb effect in his speech, because it is very pleasant to read when content is selected according to the definition. Also I want to mention that it forces your brain to paint a picture. Indeed, in the first place it is important that besides reading the material we will be able to imagine the current situation described in a passage. The adjectives used by writer help us to understand the real information about people, as it is very important to penetrate all the subtleties and see the whole essence of the epic. As an example in Tablet one writer used adjectives to describe King Gilgamesh “Gilgamesh the tall, magnificent and terrible”, by these words we can imagine how the character looks like. Also, in description of Enkidu we can specify figurative language “all his body is mattered with hair, he bears long tresses like those of a woman’’ writer uses literally devices called simile as there is a comparison between his hair. It uses words in a certain way to convey meaning and persuade the readers. This will used to evoke emotions within the reader and give a picture.

Gilgamesh and Enkidu are both similar and different in many ways. Gilgamesh is semi-divine (two-thirds god and one-third human) king that tyrannizes the people of Uruk. The gods gave him every reason to be when they endowed with a perfect body with a perfect body. However, it went out of control and gods created Enkidu in order to humble Gilgamesh. Enkidu was a wild beast that seemed to be primarily the personification of what is evil. His main mission was to absorb Gilgamesh’s energies. Moreover, Enkidu was born of the wild, maturing among the animals and studying how to live off the land, which gave him a huge benefit as he knows what to fear and what to not. While Gilgamesh grew up in royal family where everything is allowed and did not come across real obstacles, he put himself above all.

The similarities between Gilgamesh and Enkidu are that they are both legendary, strong and almost undefeatable. They were created by the gods and had their meaning of life and mission to complete. They fit very well together, as Enkidu’s strengths were Gilgamesh’s weaknesses, and vice versa. Enkidu helped Gilgamesh to see life, problems rationally and clearly. Therefore, they both helped shape each other’s decisions and were great people. These two similar people Gilgamesh and Enkidu, when in contact with each other, accepted their similarities and disagreements for their own productiveness and cycle. They were one complete, indestructible force that supported each other and created a harmony like Yin Yang.

To conclude with, in every language adjectives are important elements of sentences by using them we can express the quality of any person or object. Today in most of the languages, words have identical meanings the difference is only in their pronunciation. I completely agree with all the adjectives used in the epic. They correspond to the main characters and clearly emphasize their features. Moreover, because of these adjectives I have a provision of what should I add from my first language. It is very important to mention that Gilgamesh was very brave and in my language it is written like “бесстрашный”, as he was considered a hero because he had many great qualities such as loyalty “верный”, perseverance. He was a great man and was seen as flawless and perfect in strength “сильный”.
