How the Enlightenment Impacted the World The Enlightenment was a period in the eighteenth century that pointed out reason and science. It was also known as the Age of Reason, a time when most people believed reason whether it was religion, laws, science, ect. Even stories, they were a way of telling people about the true knowledge of the world.

Tartuffe was an act of play written by Moliere that emphasized the Enlightenment period, it uses rational, order, moderation, and many more by how each character acts in different ways. In the play Tartuffe is the protagonist, he is one of many lies that he advises to organ throughout the play, he manipulates organ by pretending to be the “perfect” man. Many characters in the play can truly see how Tartuffe real identity is, but Organ does not because he is so clouded by his own emotions.

Cleante, which is Organ brother in law is the voice of reason, he tries to talk some sense into organ many times, yet Organ refuses to believe that Tartuffe is an “angel”. Act, Towards the end of the play Organ finally opens his eyes to realize that Tartuffe was a lair and sees how he used him, Tartuffe was a character to show people that people like him exist in the real world, and without reason, there would be chaos among people with different types of conflicts.

This was a story based on religion, optimism, satirizing many subjects, from certain philosophies to human nature itself. Candide was an outcast he traveled from place to place seeing and learning many new things. Throughout his journey, he has the confidence of hope while he goes through many horrific matters of cruelty, but he wouldn’t have made it through all of the events he went through if it wasn’t for his mentor, Pangloss. Before Pangloss died he told Candide that everything happens for a reason whether good or bad. “ (5.14).
