Education are one of the most important things in our life, without education a modernisation process cannot surely be accomplished. Education is a process that including passing a set of useful knowledge, skills, value and habits. Education can take place in formal or informal settings and any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feel, or act may be considered educational. The methodology of teaching is called pedagogy. Formal education is commonly divided formally into such stages as preschool or kindergarten, primary school, secondary school and then college, university, or apprenticeship. The methods of formal education are including giving a storytelling, discussion, training, teaching and directed research. Informal Education is a general term for education that can occur outside of a structured curriculum. Informal Education encompasses student interests within a curriculum in a regular classroom, but is not limited to that setting. It works through conversation, and the exploration and enlargement of experience. The role of education today is to prepare a learners for the their future. Today’s education is not only concerned with the academic nature of the students but also caring for art and music to be included in the school’s curriculum, but some parents and societies disagree that art and music are included in the school curriculum. Many schools today are cutting back or eliminating their art programs due to budget constraints. As a student in Open University Malaysia, I strongly agreed that art and music should be included in the school curriculum, as it can provide many benefits to the lessons in addition to diversifying student talents. The reason I wrote this essay is to discuss about all of the benefits that can be obtained if art and music are included in the school curriculum.

The first reason why art and music should be included in the school curriculum is because by learning art and music, it help learners to develop creative problem-solving thinking. For those students that is taking art classes at school, they will be trained to familiarize themselves with creative ideas in solving questions related to visual arts. This ability of creative thinking can be apply to other academic subjects that need a lot of focus and innovative ideas such as mathamatics, science and writing essay for English subject. There are many types of art that students can learn if incorporated into the school curriculum some different types of art are animation, architecture, assemblage, calligraphy, ceramics, computer, Christian or religious, conceptual, artistic design, drawing, folk, graffiti, graphic, illuminated manuscript, illustration, mosaic, painting, performance, photography, sculpture, stained glass, tapestry, and video. Academic research has found a link between arts education and success in other seemingly unrelated subjects. Ponter, J. R. (1999). Studies show that students who are lucky enough to have music education receive higher grade point averages in core subjects (specifically math) than those who do not have music education. Baker.Jr, Richard Allen (2011) However, while dance, drama, and art education have an affect on academic achievement, those results are not statistically significant So it seems that not all art education is equal. Some disciplines within the arts simply have a more significant impact on other more academic disciplines. Even in disciplines which showed no statistically significant impact on performance in core subjects, studies have shown that there can be other important benefits. A rise in confidence, an eagerness and willingness to learn, and creative thinking among the students all resulted from drama, dance, and arts education. Each of these benefits can positively impact academic achievement in subjects such as Creative Writing and beyond. As a students, I can confidently say that these are positive attributes to attain no matter what subject your students are learning. When the focus is shifted away from standardized test scores, it is clear that the benefits of art education are far reaching. Winner, Ellen and Hetland, Lois (2009), Fine arts can help students develop non-testable skills such as “observing, envisioning, innovating through exploration and reflective self-evaluation”. Just looking more closely at the skill of observation, you can see a direct correlation between skills learned in the art classroom and those required in the working world. Students who learn how to look closely and break something down into its simplest form will be prepared to create new technology and make the small adjustments required to improve in a variety of fields.

Colors, rhythms and movements are the elements that always exist around the students. Through the existence of these elements, pupils can learn something new around them more fun and more effective. Rhythm is the element in music art. In art education, the rhythm is described as an arrangement of a recurring pattern, a uniform set of movements. Children will begin to understand and learn something in the rhythm as they perform activities such as jumping, moving left and right, dancing, drawing patterns and so on. Actual rhythms can stimulate the minds of children to focus on what is being done. Without the presence of music that is rhythm, it is definitely something that becomes bland and the student will feel bored. In addition, the presence of rythms in activities that indirectly engage children to participate in an activity more fun and enthusiastic. Children will feel more fun doing activities such as jumping while following the music rhythm. They will also explore the more creative and interesting movements when there is a response to the children with the music or the rhythm they hear.
