Explaining the theoretical concepts and principles of Positive Psychology and psychological strengths. Identify each strength and the key principle of concepts and state my VIA character’s strength test as well as explaining the impact of these strengths and development of these strengths in my life. What I have learned from this module, “Positive Psychology,” for me, is a good realization of what I have developed over the last ten years of my life. Since my dearest father had passed away in 2007, I have been asking myself who I am and what I want for my life. Through deciding to get my life right, I have had gone through lots of traumatic situations. Divorce, left my children, loss of business. After a decade of years trying to get my life on track, I have this inner strength to overcome all these grieves and poverty situation. Thank God that through being a Christian, I have learned what is resilience, forgiveness, and love. Through being a Christian, I have learned how to move on and move forward from all these traumatic situations. In my life experience, I have discovered that happiness is what this module has taught, the positive emotion, positive strength positive perspective. Growing up in Asia, especially in Singapore. Academic credit is the most important for all children. My family is no different in this area of concept; we are always being compared with another family’s children in a similar age group. Even when my academic score is high, due to the often compared with others, the sense of feeling not doing well enough is always a tattoo in my thoughts. Some children may make it graduate, and some may drop out of school due to the pressure from parents’ demand for our top score in school. Up until in my twenties, I started to ignore the sense of “not doing well enough” and set plans and determination to get myself where I want to be in my career. In this module, I have understood a few of my strengths in being a positive experience.

But after I had done my VIA character strength test (this test has surprised me of my low score in some of my character strengths, which set some query to it. VIA character strength test is created by Seligman; this test could determine the individual high score in the test and low score in the test. However, the researcher has explained the key theoretical concepts and principles of positive psychology and psychological strengths. According to Csikszentmihalyi’s quote, “The best moments in our lives are not the passive, receptive, relaxing times . . . The best moments usually occur if a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile” (Csikszentmihalyi, 1990). Identify the method used to identify your strengths and the usefulness of the measure (Seligman and Mayerson, Ph.D.)., from (VIA Institute on Character Identify 24 character strengths) that all people have, with the acknowledgment that a few of these are more articulated or created in a few vs. others. An individual can perform a better life that comes from these strengths that it has identified by a group of 50 social scientists from a distinctive background in psychology, religion, and philosophy. According to the above researchers (Seligman. M & Mayerson. N), explained the six virtues in 24 character strengths. Wisdom & knowledge – creativity, love of learning, perspective, curiosity, Judgement Courage – bravery, perseverance, zest, honesty Humanity – kindness, social intelligence, love Equity – fairness, leadership, teamwork Temperance – prudence, self-regulation, forgiveness Transcendence – Humor, appreciation of beauty & excellence, spirituality, gratitude, hope has analyzed and drawn out an assessment tool that can be identified strength through individual circumstances and experiences in life. I had done my (VIA character identify strength test), name a few of them; my result is spirituality is the highest score, love is next, creativity. My lowest score is bravery, self-regulation, and prudence. According to the (VIA character strength test), it explains the strength in spirituality; Spirituality is a strength within the virtue category of transcendence, one of six virtues that subcategorize the 24 strengths. Transcendence describes strengths that assist you to connect to something greater. The other strengths in Transcendence are the appreciation of beauty & excellence, gratitude, hope, humor, and spirituality. Love as a character strength, rather than as a feeling, love as a character strength truly refers to the way you approach your closest and warmest connections. Love is reciprocal, referring to both loving others and the willingness to acknowledge love from others. Creativity as a character strength, creativity is thinking of a new way, lots of different and unique and useful ideas or solutions. Make a positive contribution to individual life. As such, the impact of these strengths in my life has moved me to live a happier and more satisfying life. It gives hope, happiness, and joy. Such being optimistic, allows me to appreciate the present, accepting the experience, and making peace with it leads me to be more grateful and forgiving. It also adds to the advantage of having hope to achieve goals in life. another example; commitment to health; at some point in my life, I could feel like giving up, which is understandable. Given that I was in a very negative stage, my spirituality strength has taken the most of turning my negative situation or mindset to positive emotional strength and get me through a difficult time. By discovering and applying positive psychological strengths has improved my situation through various plans. Positive psychology could guide people on how to cope with adversity, be productive, and build positive relationships with others. I also have discovered my lowest score strengths, and they are bravery, self-regulation, and prudence. Guess I am not as brave as I thought I was, Bravery in positive psychology guide meaning to face challenges, threat, and difficulties. I believe negative life experiences can cause a person to shrink in their strength. Bravery takes both action and risk; this can helps personal growth and achievement. speaking up when things are unfair or wrong, such actions can lead to a long term benefit, often for the good of others, and these actions can engender trust. To develop bravery strength, I have to look into speaking in community, taking on more responsibility for a new project that involves some challenges. Another of my lowest score strength is self-regulation. Those who have strong strength in self-regulation have certainty in their conviction that they can be viable in what they pursue and are likely to achieve their goals. A useful metaphor can be that self-regulation acts like a muscle, which can be depleted through over-exertion or strengthened through customary practice. These explain of my weak strength in self-regulation, it acts like a muscle, and I could see that my strength in self-regulation shrink at times when I feel disappointment or insecurities. To be able to succeed in my goals, I have to learn how to improve by setting small goals to improve my everyday living. Making sure I finished the task. Paying attention to prioritize my task, control my emotions, and focus on positive emotion. Lastly, my lowest score of strength is prudence; it is a strength of restraint. being careful of one choice, thinking before acting. Prudence means not taking unnecessary risks, not saying or doing things that might later regret. I will make an effort to remember to think twice before saying anything. Visualize the consequences of my next decision making, especially in my goals to business. think five years, ten years from the present plan.
