In today’s world people who different ether by skin or sex, religious all face a number of challenges from being denied at hotel, restaurants and even churches. Today I will be talking about pros and cons of same-sex couple’s. Some pros and cons I found on the internet are according to procon.org ‘same sex couple are denying some people the option to marry is discriminatory and creates a second class of citizens. Same-sex couples should have access to the same benefits enjoyed by heterosexual married couples’. Marriage has always been hard for same sex couple be it because of religiously reason or biased opinions. Also being married as it benefits. Such as social security benefits, health benefits and nursing home care. All this is thanks to the Obergefell decision which let married couples get federal and state benefits. Another pro is same sex is your taking a stand against those who think it is wrong or different.

There are many pros of same sex couples but like I said before they face many challenges. There are just as many cons as there are pros. Some cons I found on procon.org examples of same sex couples are “marriage is for procreation and should not be extended to same-sex couples because they cannot produce children together. Gay marriage is contrary to the word of God and is incompatible with the beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups. There are many ups and downs to same sex couples”. Thus are but a few ups and down one must face in the gay community.

Over the past decades, tourism has experienced continued growth and diversification to become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world, accounting for 7% of worldwide exports, one in every eleven jobs and 10% of the world’s GDP. The sector, if well managed, can become a catalyst for economic prosperity, social inclusion, peace and understanding, along with cultural and environmental preservation. We live in a world where everyone was freedom to say whats on their mind, and some of it is wrong and hateful. There are many victims and their stores, this is one of my involving a close friend and family member. A long time ago one of my friends and family members where almost attack by this hatful people who saw them as sinners. My friend once told me she couldn’t get in to her high school prom which was in a hotel because she was bring another girls as a dated. The hotel felt that that was inapprotes and told her and her dated to leave.

My friend tell me it’s hard for her to go anywhere without someone judging her, we once went into Xfinity company to get internet for our apartment and the moment we walk in the workers there give her strange looks and told her she couldn’t get their services but I could. Everywhere we went I saw more people treating them wrongly, thinking to myself “why this okay, how is is this okay to do to other people.” Thanks to recent events yes the world is much safer than it was at first for same sex couples. But there are still many more people who have hate in their hearts.

Even if there are laws against this kind of discrimination and bigotry won’t stop unless people open there minds and hearts. In recent years there have been many cases where same-sex couples are attacked or discrimination against. Well searching for more information a come cross a very recent case.

The case from Michigan that involved a female couple and their three children in the month of April DeBoer and Jayne Rowsey were heldt a commitment ceremony on the month of February 2007, they were both foster parents. During January 25, 2009 they had a son that was being born and Rowe decided to adopt him in the month of November. They also adopt a daughter that was being born on February 1, 2010 and Deboer decided to adopt the little girl in the month of April of 2011. There second son was born on the month of November 9, 2009 and Rowse went on to adopt the child on the month of October 2011. On January 23, 2012 the couple filled a lawsuit on the United States because they thought that they had outrageous rules for adoption because, the United States only let single or married couples in Michigan adopt children.

Also recent this year on July 19, 2019 a same-sex couple where deny to use the hotel for their wedding. In Vermont, lesbian couple Kate Baker and Ming Linsey Sue a Vermont inn claiming the inn refused to host their wedding because of their sexual orientation. The Inn violently and abruptly turned them away after learning they are lesbians. Because the Vermont inn refused them the inn is in violated of the Fair Housing and public Accommodations Act. In many cases around hotels and inns the USA refuse people because of who they date. We have a collective responsibility to stand against discrimination, fight stereotypes and become vehicles for social change.

In June, the US Supreme Court is expected to hand down a decision about whether Masterpiece cake shop owner Jack Phillips was within his constitutional rights to refuse to make a wedding cake for a gay couple because their marriage conflicts with his Christian beliefs. Americans are a split on the matter. Yet it has little to do with religion. Debates around this case have referenced potential implications for the dignity of sexual minority populations, but in the absence of data to ground the conversation.

In states that implemented policies permitting the denial of services to same-sex couples in 2015, mental distress among gay, lesbian, and bisexual adults increased from 21.9 percent to 32.8 percent, a 10.9 percentage point increase from 2014 to 2016. In contrast, mental distress increased just 0.8 percentage points among heterosexual adults in the same states and by 1.3 percentage points for gay, lesbian, and bisexual adults in control states during the same time period.

In the final analysis, laws permitting the denial of services to same sex couples were associated with a 46 percent relative increase in mental distress among gay, lesbian, and bisexual adults compared to other groups.

This is in no way hard to believe or far-fetched. Policies that deny services may directly affect the mental health of those denied services and others in their social networks. Indeed, the mother of Charlie Craig, a respondent in the Masterpiece Cake shop case, has described the trauma of watching her son transform from delight to devastation the day he and his husband were denied a wedding cake.

While relatively few same-sex couples were likely turned away from marriage licenses or adoptions within the 7 to 18-month period following policy implementation, policies permitting the denial of services to same-sex couples signal to all that members of this minority group are not equal people deserving of equal dignity. Our data suggest permitting the denial of services to same-sex couples is harmful in ways well beyond the denial of service itself.

According to research that was performed earlier this year, Indiana University researchers surveyed 2,035 Americans in the first national survey to clarify why a large segment of the public endorses businesses’ right to deny service. Respondents were all given brief descriptions of a scenario where a couple tried to purchase wedding-invitation portraits and were denied service. There were eight different versions of the scenario, assigned randomly to the study participants; each included a unique combination of the following:

  • A same-sex or interracial couple
  • A self-employed photographer or a corporate chain
  • The denial was for explicitly religious reasons or for explicitly non-religious reasons

The participants to respond to questions about these scenarios, along the lines of “do you think the corporate chain should be allowed to deny service to a same-sex couple?” and then had them explain their answers. The results were published Dec. 20 in Science Advances. Based on information collected from the findings, more than half (53%) of the participants that businesses should be allowed to deny services to a gay couple, and 39% said businesses should be allowed to discriminate against interracial couples. Federal law prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation for federal employees, but there is no definitive protection in the private sector.

Surprisingly, however, they were just as likely to support a business’s decision to deny service based on non-religious reasons as they were to support a religious-based denial of service. This trend held even among conservatives, evangelicals, and those frequently attending religious services a group more likely to support denying service to same-sex couples. “The finding challenges the idea that denial of service to same-sex couples is all about religious freedom,” said Brian Powell, the lead author of the study and a professor of sociology at Indiana University in a university statement. “People may oppose same-sex marriage because of their beliefs, but their views about denial of service have nothing to do with whether the denial is for religious reasons.” In fact, 61% of the study participants supported same-sex marriage (and 90% supported interracial marriage), a number that reflects other larger US surveys.

Instead, said Powell, many participants framed their support in terms of “individual rights and libertarianism.” The survey suggests that Americans are more likely to be uncomfortable requiring self-employed individuals to provide their services than requiring corporations to do the same: 61% thought a self-employed a photographer should be able to deny service, but only 31% thought a corporation should be able to do so. Others believed that businesses should have the right to refuse service but expected that discriminatory businesses would be punished in the market.

I once read an post on Facebook, about how being in a same sex relationship is a sin to god and that anyone who suppose or is in a relationship like this is going to ‘hell”. So I took to the internet to find out if everyone who is religious feel the same way as that person did. During my time researching I find that a great majority feel those who are in this kinds of relationship are not bad people or going to hell. I found that a pastor name Jimmy Creech wrote about what the bible says about homosexuality.

Jimmy Creech a former united Methodist pastor for 30 years, was at the center of controversy around blessing gay and lesbian in the church. There is a growing number of religious groups having issues with officially welcoming LGBTQ people in to their church. In Jimmy Creech own words he say ‘The bible says nothing about homosexuality, as an innate dimension of personality. Sexual orientation was not understood in biblical times. There are some references in the bible to same sex couple behavior and all of them are undeniably negative. But what is condemned in those passages is the violence, idolatry and exploitation related to the behavior.” Meaning the so-called sin these same-sex couple are supplely doing is not true, instead people believe it’s a sin because they don’t understand it or just can’t aspect it. Jimmy Creech even agrees that lesbian, gay and bisexual people are a part of god’s wondrous creation.

Their church figures agree with this and many who don’t, in all honest it depends on the persons. Some just can’t agrees love has many forms and that anyone can fall in love be it man and woman or gay or lesbian we all fall in love the same way. Counselors a person who gives advice, every once and a while someone needs advice for something. Everyone has that right to seek counsel for their problems. But not everyone feel that way even people whose job is to counsel others, recently a Missouri State University student was dismissed from program for his unwillingness to counsel same-sex couples. After his dismissal he filled a federal lawsuit against because he felt he was wrongfully dismissed because of his religious beliefs.

Accorded to merriam-webster ‘Hospitality is the relationship between a guest and a host, wherein the host receives the guest with goodwill, including the reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers. Hospitality is also the way we treat people, that is the service of welcoming receiving guests ‘Over the past week I interview one of my kitchen managers how they feel about serving and host a same-sex couple. The Manager response was “if you work in hospitality you must give every guest respect and accept them for who they are. No matter if they are homosexual, lesbians or bisexual you treat them like any other guest.” I asked my manager Chef mike what hospitality means to him he said ‘hospitality to me means to show people love, care and to accept them, because you wouldn’t want someone to treat unfairly or be rude to you. We all want to be respected and treated like someone that’s hospitality mean to me.

There are still more than 70 countries where homosexuality is criminalized, and in some instances punishable by death. We also know that rights can be taken away in governmental shifts, and so progress cannot be taken for granted. It is essential to continue commendable work of the last eight years to combat discrimination and seek equal rights for LGBT citizens of the world.

So in conclusion, in today’s world people who are dating the same gender face many challenges and unfairness. But there are those who are understanding, caring and don’t discriminate others for their life discerns.
