I have been interested in becoming a teacher. I just didn’t know what kind of teacher i wanted to come to. Then I thought about what I did in the past and i use to help in classrooms with teachers who taught in special education. I really enjoy doing that and the kids also really loved my time that I gave throughout the day. So therefore when i realized that i enjoy doing that and I could really help and make an impact in kids i decided that i would love to become a special education teacher. I have been looking forward to go to school and study what i need to know then go on with my life and do what I love the most, being able to help everyone I can in any way I can. In the past when people have asked me what i wanted to become i used to say that I wanted to become a surgeon I had some thoughts about going into the navy for medicine and i realized that i couldn’t do any of them because I just wasn’t fit for the job.

Therefore I just thought about what I have done in the past that I love and I just knew from there that I would love to be able to help kids out. I ended up talking to my mom about what i wanted to become and she thought it was a good idea and if that’s what i really want to do i should keep looking into it. I have also talked to a close family friend who is a special education teacher and she had asked me questions like if i was ready to be with kids all day and I told her that I am really social and I am good with kids. She had also told me that sometimes the kids will not listen but that’s okay because I grew up with 6 kids, including me, so therefore I am used to kids not always listening to what I have to say.

Some skills you need to have to become a special ed. teacher is patience, organization, and creativity. When a child has special needs the teacher must be patient. Since this child takes longer to understand work or doing the simple work. Still no matter what or how long it takes the student to finish their work, the teacher has to have patience to let the student finishes. They say the classroom is support to be a serious working place but also working with kids with special needs having a good sense of humor helps the students complete their work. I have two brothers with special needs and I help them get their work done and i have patience with them when I help them with their school work, I also have a sense of humor when I work with them and I have noticed that it has helped them get work done.

Another thing that is needed to become a special needs teacher is that you need to be organized with all your work. When a child is taught in an organized environment he or she is more confident with the work they do. In my opinion I am very organized and i will be able to color code if I needed to. I don’t mind being organized or making a classroom organized. I organize all the time for my own school work.

One more skill that you need to have is creativity. Since special needs kids have a different type of learning the teacher must be able to come up with different ways to teach the kids. By making creative work in the class it will be able to help all the students in there own way. The teacher also has to be able to deal with outbursts from students and be able to have a creative way to fix the problem. I am good when it comes to fixing problems. I will be able to come up with creative ways. I have a big house hold so therefore when it comes to doing work or coming up with it I am able to do it without any doubt.

To become a special needs teacher i will have to have 4 full years of college. Special education teachers must have their Bachelors. The bachelor’s degree consists of 120 credits which includes a combination of core education theory. Most programs take 4 years of full time study to complete.
