Overall in the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” one of the main characters is Atticus Finch, he is the leader of society and everyone respects him as being a good person. He treats everyone the same way they treat him and fights for everyone’s virtue. Why is it important to treat every human equally and how could it affect society? Atticus’ behavior is the same at his house with Jem and Scout, as well as the people in the society of Maycomb. He is brave and fights for everyone’s rights, even if society does not agree with him. He is open-minded and is not biased by anyone in society.

Atticus’ behavior is the same at home with his children, as well as outside with the society of Maycomb. Atticus tells his kids not to listen to others saying bad things, just do good things in life. ‘You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view – until you climb into his skin and walk around in it”-(Atticus 36). This means that you do not know why the kid Cecil Jacobs said negative things about your father, maybe it is not his words and he is forced to say it by his parents. So do not judge him before being in his place and find out why he said it. “You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, do not you let ‘em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change”. This means no matter what happens just listen to them, do not fight back but figure out what they said and fight with your head. In the ending Atticus is brave and fights for people’s respect and rights.

Atticus is brave and fights for people’s rights, he is a defendant and fights for equal rights. He is fighting for a black man (Tom Robinson) right where he is putting himself in a position where even society is against him for defending that person. Tom Robinson is in a case of raping white women, where his defendant is Atticus Finch trying to defend Tom being innocent and not raping that woman. Atticus knows that Tom is innocent and is trying his best to win the case and prove them wrong. “And so a quiet, respectable, humble Negro who had the unmitigated temerity to ‘feel sorry’ for a white woman has had to put his word against two white people’s”. This means that Atticus is being brave and making it obvious that he only does not want Tom’s innocence, but he respects him as being a man. Society is probably angrier with Tom apologizing to the white women as being women, but people don’t notice that there are equal rights, which means that every color and race should treat equally and be treated equally.

Atticus is open-minded and is not biased toward anybody in society, he believes that all men have been created equally. He does not see any difference between men being black or white, rich or poor in the society of Maycomb. He treats everyone equally and respects everyone the same, in return when he was defending a black man (Tom Robison), most of the society went against him and did not respect him back. He treats each person as an individual and does not judge them based on their class. “Our courts have their faults, as does any human institution, but in this country, our courts are the great levelers, and in our courts, all men are created equal”-(274). This means that In his final speech during the trial of Tom Robinson, Atticus speaks passionately about the equality of all people. He is saying that the judges are looking at Tom’s case as being a black person, and that’s why Tom will automatically mislead and is assuming that he is guilty.

Why is it significant to behave in a certain way and how could that influence the community? Atticus’ actions are the same at home and outside in society, he is encouraging and tolerant by treating everyone equally and also respecting them. He is non-judgemental and is influenced by anyone in society. Atticus’ actions are the same in his house and outside, he always tells his kids not to be part of a bad thing, always do the right thing and get appreciated after. He is saying not to judge anyone until you are not in his position and do not view it from his point of view. He is defending a black man and fighting for his rights as being a human, where on the other side he is putting himself in a position where people are insulting him. Lastly, he is talking about how all men are made equally and we all should treat them the same. This topic is talking about the importance of family, where Atticus is playing the role of being a father and advising them about what to do in life to be successful.
